Types And Uses Of Torch Lighters

Generally, a torch lighter is a butane or propane torch that contains butane and propane gases for combustion. Torch lighters are used mostly by campers and smokers. Whatever the function, there are basic information about them.

Choosing between butane or propane torch

Both butane gas and propane gas have properties that are exactly alike although when it comes to burning very efficiently, it is butane gas that gets the upper hand. What this implies is that for equal volumes of butane and propane in a torch lighter, the one containing butane will perform better. In addition to this, the cost of buying butane is much cheaper than that of propane. However, butane hardens faster than propane. Butane turns to very strong solid at temperatures lower than zero degrees Celsius.

These downsides can make it difficult for campers and mountain climbers that need to make use of the torch lighter. The butane torch lighter is strictly not recommendable for people camping in cold areas because there are chances that they will not be able to make use of them. As for smokers in fair climate areas, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Propane can give you better results than butane in extremely hard conditions. Butane should not be given a thought when the temperature of the place you are going to camp is very high. Nowadays, there are exceptional torch lighters made of butane that can adapt to high temperatures better than the regular ones. This development is advantageous to both campers and smokers since the need to burn for a long time is eliminated.

Another great importance of the torch lighter is that it can help in performing house hold chores. Problems that require urgent attention can be easily done with a torch lighter. For instance, they are useful in loosening tight nuts or bolts. This work that is easily done with the torch lighter may be more difficult with the greasing or hammering technique since the nuts or bolts might have been tightly bonded as a result of years of chemical reactions with its constituent metal, water and other chemical compounds. Heat is actually more effective in solving this problem.

Truly, the traditional lighters may not be able to do this. This is more reason why the propane torch lighter is recommendable. If this torch lighter must be used inside the house, provision should be made for adequate ventilation. Also, it is important to note that the cost of the torch lighter should not prevent you from buying it. Though there are expensive ones, there are also the small ones that are cheap to buy.

In conclusion, it may be difficult to travel with torch lighters and matches on airplanes. Lighters made with liquid or reusable butane are good for traveling with the airplane though they are not usually allowed. Actually, torch lighters are generally not allowed when traveling on plane.
